The Process

The system

In addition to an extensive pipe network, ERA Water has infrastructure located across a number of key sites including:

  • Felixstow

  • Hamilton

  • Scales

  • Shakespeare

  • Langman

Bio filters

Bio-filters help to clean captured stormwater using a filtration system comprised of shallow ponds planted with suitable vegetation, which act as a filter for any organic and chemical content in the stormwater before it is used for irrigation.

Bio-filters are an important part of the cleansing process, which ensures that water quality meets standards for use for irrigation, in conjunction with the wetlands at Felixstow Reserve and Ultra Violet light (UV) treatment.

UV filter and pump

UV treatment of captured stormwater is another step in ensuring that water quality standards are met. It is used in the treatment of any captured stormwater that is injected into the aquifer for future extraction and use for irrigation.

UV treatment ensures that any microorganisms that may be in captured stormwater are rendered harmless before injection into the aquifer, in order to maintain the quality of water in the aquifer.

Storage tanks

There are a number of above ground and underground water tanks throughout the ERA Water network which helps ERA Water balance the distribution to various reserves and to maintain water pressure in the network.

Bores

The ERA Water system has six bores, five of which are active, which are used for both injection into and extraction from the aquifer. The bores are located at:

  • Hamilton 1 and Hamilton 2: Hamilton Reserve, adjacent Mimosa Drive, Vale Park.

  • Scales 1 and Scales 2: River Torrens Linear Park, adjacent Burlington Street and Fuller Street, Walkerville.

  • Marden 1 and Marden 2: River Torrens Linear Park, adjacent Lower Portrush Road, Marden.

The below locations are listed on the map:

  • Third Creek harvest site: Drage Reserve, adjacent OG Road, Felixstow.

  • Fourth Creek harvest site and wetlands: Felixstow Reserve, Riverside Drive/Langman Grove, Felixstow.

  • Hamilton biofilter, water treatment and pump station: Hamilton Reserve adjacent OG Road and the River Torrens, Klemzig.

  • Shakespeare tank and pump station: The Gums Reserve, Shakespeare Avenue, Tranmere.

  • Langman tank and pump station: Langman Reserve, between Wyatt and Waterfall Gully Roads, Burnside.
